About Us

Tobys celebrated 35 years of trading in 2020 and during that time thousands of tonnes of building materials have been reclaimed and reused!

Started in 1985 by two brothers selling bricks and roof tiles from an old builders' yard in Newton Abbot, Tobys quickly grew as 'architectural antiques' became ever more popular and was soon a busy reclamation yard stocking everything from fireplaces to roll top baths.

In 1997 the company bought the old Exminster train station site that had been disused since the 1970's. This one acre site enabled the display of a huge amount of stock and also had space to add workshops and lots of new lines like bespoke furniture and bulks (sleepers, barrels, timber etc) thus creating the fabulous shopping experience that Tobys is so well known for today.

In 2016 the previous owner retired, and the general manager of ten years and his wife bought the company. They are now working hard to make Tobys a truly exceptional reclamation yard with a focus on supplying high quality reclaimed rustic furniture and interiors. Much of their energy goes into sourcing interesting and diverse items locally,  nationally and abroad with new stock coming in almost every day.

Tobys has a full-time restorer working away in the workshop, bringing reclaimed pieces back to their former glory and also designing unique items, so there is always something new to see.

The only way to really see what we have and experience the size of the yard is to pay us a visit - you won't be disappointed! Tobys is an essential place to visit if you are restoring a period property, or just for a fascinating day out.
